Lancashire’s Operation Soundsystem was officially founded in 1996 although the collective’s love of reggae goes back much further. Nick Sasquash, Driod, Daddy Teacha, Razzle and Ben Jaman began, as most sound systems do, by playing free outdoor events, house parties and “just about anywhere that would let us string the boxes up & play”. Operation Soundsystem quickly established a reputation for good vibes, heavyweight sound and conscious selections, helping pave the way to shows in Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield and the now legendary dances held at Tony’s New Empress Ballroom in Blackburn.
Releasing their first vinyl ‘Rally Round’ with Daddy Teacha to much acclaim in 2004, the track quickly became one of the best selling UK roots records of the year, again raising the profile of the sound not just in UK but for the first time overseas. Recent vinyl releases with Alexia, Don-fe, Prince Jamo, Daddy Teacha & Ricky Grant have been very well received across the worldwide reggae family.
“Operation Sound are one of the UK’s finest. With qualifying for the quarter final of UK Dub Cup 2009 and holding sessions all over, Operation also run their very own record label. Bringing some of the freshest releases from Ja to Uk and some of the wildest Plates on the scene right now (its all about the Earl Sixteen Plate from the Dub Cup 1/4 finals, sent everyone nuts!). Once you have experienced Operation Sound you will see “Who feels it knows it”.
