Wilkswood Reggae 2018 kicks off in two weeks on Friday July 20th – that’s just 15 more sleeps until a fabulous weekend of Peace, Dub and Harmony in the Woods by the Sea! The long range weather forecast is looking positive (sunny intervals with highs of 21°C and a balmy 16° at night) but with the Main Stage, Jah Spirit Stage and the Main Bar all under cover, the show will go on whatever the weather. The Festival Crew are hard at work getting the site up-and-running and already it’s looking good as the organisers, Dubwood Productions, aim to build on the event year-on-year.
The lineup has been confirmed with over 45 live acts, sound systems, deejays, selectors, poets and comedians performing across four locations over three days. The Main Stage headliners have been confirmed for a while and feature three double-headers: Earl Sixteen and Carroll Thompson with the The Uppercut Band (Friday), General Levy and Joe Ariwa (Saturday) and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and Mad Professor closing proceedings on Sunday night. Other highlights include Mikey General, The Hempolics, Chainska Brassika, Don Fe, Dubheart, Gaz Mayall’s Rockin Blues, Scientist Sound, Hytal Bosrah and Kei Miller. A full schedule for the weekend will appear on the website as soon as it’s finalised and you can keep up-to-date with any last minute additions by following our latest posts on Facebook.
There are more streetfood stalls at Wilkswood Reggae 2018, offering everything from Jamaican and Mexican to Thai and Italian, with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options in between. Juice and smoothie bars will offer rejuvenating refreshment, there are several tea and coffee stands and we even have our own festival ice lollies. The Main Bar will be serving Dorset real ales and cider and the Rumshak will be serving ice cold rum cocktails.
The Kid’s Zone is further expanded this year, with a Kid’s Cinema, pizza making, stone carving, metalwork, face painting and nature walks all included on the weekend’s events. The Wessex Community Circus will bring their unique brand of acrobatics, juggling, clowns, street theatre and comedy throughout the weekend and the YogaDreads will be holding regular sessions for kids and their parents.
There are still tickets on sale for Wilkswood Reggae 2018 but they are selling fast and another sellout is expected.
